Construction and Maintenance

Our courses cover a range of skills including construction operations, bricklaying and the CSCS card to demonstrate competence on matters such as manual handling and hazardous substances, as well as health and safety awareness for work in a construction environment.

With friendly lecturers and small class sizes, Northumberland Skills offers the perfect learning environment to boost your English, maths, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and BSL (British Sign Language).


Our team will help to guide you and a pre-course assessment will ensure you’re starting at the right level on the courses that are tailored to individual abilities.

If you are friendly and approachable, and like helping people look and feel their best, a career in hairdressing or barbering could be for you.


You’ll learn the skills at our professional centre at Haydon Bridge and experience what it’s like to work in a real salon. Skills include shampooing and conditioning, cutting and dressing hair, colouring and consultation. The courses also give you a sound knowledge of health & safety and customer service skills.

Horticulture & Gardening

Study levels available: Mixed ability, Level 2 and Level 3

Offering a wide range of skill levels our
horticulture and gardening courses go from an introduction to garden design to Level 3 chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting - and everything in between.

These practical sessions allow you to develop your skills as well as learning important health and safety rules and regulations.
