Engineering learners from Northumberland Skills recently had the opportunity to visit the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult at the National Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth, gaining valuable insight into the cutting-edge technology shaping the future of renewable energy.

The visit provided learners with a behind-the-scenes look at ORE Catapult’s world-leading facilities, including the powertrain test facility and the turbine blade test facility. These state-of-the-art sites play a crucial role in developing and testing next-generation wind turbine technology, supporting the UK’s transition to clean energy.

Paul Cottiss, Lecturer in Engineering at Northumberland Skills, highlighted the significance of the experience for the learners, stating: “It was great to get the learners engaged in this real-work setting to give them a taste of the exciting career opportunities ahead.
“I’m very proud of our strong relationships with industry and local employers, ensuring our learners benefit from these connections to open doors for them in the future.”
This visit is part of Northumberland Skills’ commitment to providing learners with hands-on industry exposure, bridging the gap between education and employment.
By engaging with leading organisations like ORE Catapult, learners gain the knowledge and experience needed to excel in the ever-evolving engineering and renewable energy sectors.
